GRAND TOUR GRAND TOUR FEATURED LISTING by Lisa Polacheck If there are any old secrets left in 85251—the high-profile, ever-evolving downtown Scottsdale ZIP code—one of the sweetest is Royale Gardens. About a decade after the city’s 1951 incorporation, developer Malouf Enterprises dug into a plot of land northeast of Camelback and Scottsdale roads to test an emerging “condominium” concept. Book Box All Categories Play Video Play Video 02:48 Auxpr Scottsdale Book Box Sponsorship Reel Introducing Book Box, a Modernist designed “Lil Library” for Scottsdale Public Libraries' very own Books2Go, their newest of eight, and growing, community-made, free book stops to punctuate Scottsdale trailheads, parks and bike paths. Book Box, pioneered by Ned Sawyer, AIA, http://sawyerarch.com, was brought to life by sculptor Gary Slater, a commission for Scottsdale’s Garden Apartment District years in the making. Today, local businesses have the opportunity to back this commissioned piece of “functional public art” and become one of our presenting, lifetime sponsors for $500.00. Following the launch of Book Box, a permanent metal plaque will replace the thermal printed wrap which features your name or business. Play Video Play Video 01:21 Auxpr Make History | Sponsor Book Box by Ned Sawyer for #SGADAZ This summer, Scottsdale Garden Apartment District (SGAD) gets its own “Lil’ Library” at 70th St and Goldwater in historic Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona. Produced in conjunction with Scottsdale Public Library’s very own Books2Go program, Book Box by Ned Sawyer is the newest of 8, and counting, little free libraries to punctuate the entrances to area parks, bike paths, and trailheads. To keep the theme of SGAD’s Mid-Century Modern, “post and beam” style garden apartments, current city landscaping, and new developments, The Goldwater and Museum Square, on either side of the intersection, we turned to Ned Sawyer, AIA, who came back with a design that received unanimous approval. Fabricated by renown local sculptor Gary Slater, the form itself is made from two types of steel; corten steel, pre-treated to rust with a unique patina, and stainless steel, wrapped in thermal printed vinyl. To help offset the cost of Book Box we’re inviting the local business community to take part in making this commission a reality. $500 puts your name or business on our Book Box, forever. For its unveiling, each of our sponsors names or businesses will be prominently displayed on all sides of the container as special thanks. Sponsor names will be printed on a seperate plaque and permanently affixed to the structure at a later date. For more information contact Ben Brosseau at (310) 429-6971 or ben@auxpr.com.
